This year's 2025 Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival will focus on raising awareness surrounding drug related issues and how we can help people to say no to drugs. Carnival committee chairperson Satish Kumar yesterday confirmed that the event will be held from July 18 to 26 at the Subrail Park ground number two, Labasa.

"This year the carnival will focus on raising awareness surrounding drug related issues and concerns, and how we can help people to say no to drugs," Mr Kumar said.

The committee according to Mr Kumar plan to have the same contest categories with contestants for the queens, kings, teens and princess categories.

"We have started with the preparation with interested contestants dropping their applications with us and those who want to book a stall can also do the same," he said.

Since the inception of the carnival in 2012, the committee has been working with the Fiji Police Force to raise awareness on crime.

When asked about what kind of community project the committee would do this year, Mr Kumar said this was part of their on-going discussions.

"The Fiji Police Force is doing a lot for the people and nation and we will see how we can assist them curb the issue of drugs," he said.

"We will continue to use the same location setup as we want everyone to see entertainment, visit stalls to eat something, be able to support their favourite contestant and enjoy amusement without rushing around from one place to another."
