Twenty-one police officers are currently on leave as they are under investigation for their alleged involvement in drug-related activities.

This was confirmed yesterday by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. He said some officers are receiving half pay; depending on the seriousness of the allegations against them.

This is part of the police's ongoing efforts to address drug-related issues within the community.

The investigation into the officers' actions is expected to wrap up soon, and the decision regarding their future within the force will depend on the outcome.

In the meantime, police continues to conduct raids and investigations as part of Operation Sasamaki, focusing on combating drug offences and maintaining public safety.

Drug crackdown

Meanwhile, police reported 220 drug cases as part of the Operation Sasamaki crackdown, with 203 involving illegal drug possession, mostly marijuana.

Other cases involved the cultivation and importation of illicit drugs.

In response, the Government launched the operation aimed at dismantling the drug supply chain at its source.

Mr Tudravu said the importance of targeting suppliers and cultivators directly; rather than waiting for information from the public.

"Our focus is clear: we must address the drug issue by targeting the root causes and applying relentless pressure on those who per petuate this problem," Mr Tudravu said.

"Despite these troubling statistics, the police force remains committed to their mission, and the detection rate continues to hover around 75 per cent. The efforts of law enforcement agencies, particularly in combating cyber fraud and serious drug offenses, remain central to their strategy in the face of rising crime levels.

"As the months progress, the public will be watching closely to see how these efforts unfold, particularly with the surge in digital and violent crimes."
