A father from Nayawa, Sigatoka, is now grappling with painful questions as he faces the world without his son.

His son, Ravneel Lal, 22, tragically died in a motor vehicle accident along Navula Valley Road in Nadroga on Sunday afternoon.

Ravneel was one of four passengers in a car driven by a 22-year-old enthusiast, which veered off the road and tumbled several times.

“I will have to face the world without him,” his father, Rohit Lal, 50, said.

Mr Lal said his son was a car enthusiast who invested some money in upgrading his car.

“At a young age, he loved cars. His grandfather owns the David Driving School. My son bought a car a year ago, and he has been slowly adding extra fittings to prepare for car shows.”

Director Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana said the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the accident.

Ravneel was thrown out of the car window, resulting in serious injuries which led to his death.

“The remaining passengers and driver were rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital, where they remain admitted as investigations continue,” SSP Divuana said.

He urged drivers to be careful while driving.

“It’s all about attitude, and this applies to all road users. If you continue to take advisories and road safety lightly, then accidents are bound to happen, resulting in serious injury or loss of life.”

Meanwhile, the national road death toll currently stands at 55 compared to 74 for the same period last year.
