The Fijian Teachers Association (FTA) is awaiting the final valuation report for the construction of a $23 million building earmarked for the end of this year.

The building will be an additional FTA building at its headquarters in Suva.

FTA general secretary Paula Manumanunitoga said the association has engaged Ulaiasi Baivatu, a local engineer and architect who has drawn initial ground planning for the building.

Mr Manumanunitoga said they had also engaged Keni Dakuidreketi, who specialises in property valuation.

“We are now awaiting the final valuation report from Mr Dakuidreketi on the value of the yet-to-be-constructed new building,” Mr Manumanunitoga said.

“He has indicated verbally that the value would be more than $23,000.”

Mr Manumanunitoga said preliminary discussions with the banks were going well as three commercial banks have shown interest.

He said they were confident FTA would be able to access funding to construct the building.

“We are confident with this project, through a loan from banks which have indicated their willingness to finance the construction,” Mr Manumanunitoga said.

“Interested banks include BSP, HFC, Merchant Bank, Westpac Bank and possibly the Bank of Baroda.”
