Twenty-five boats were blessed at the Royal Suva Yacht Club in Walu Bay on Saturday.

The practice offers protection for commuters when traveling at sea.

Vice Commodore Patrick Todd said the annual sailpast event had a good turnout as they long for traveling mercies this year.

Reverend William Powell from the Wesley Methodist Church of Fiji blessed the boats before they traveled out at sea, passing the Commodore Sam who saluted them.

Mr Todd said the salute signifies safety and well wishes for another year of sailing.

The event has been a long-time tradition for members of the club since 1932.

There were about 80 people who turned up for the event.

“We have not done this in the last two years because of COVID-19.
