A total of 30 political party names have now been reserved with the Fijian Elections Office (FEO), indicating growing interest in forming new parties ahead of the 2026 General Election.
However, the FEO has confirmed that no formal applications for registration have been submitted.
Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa said on Friday that while party name reservations have increased from 14 to 30, none of the individuals or groups behind these names have yet completed the official process.

"We have seven that are still registered. That’s confirmed,” Ms Mataiciwa said.
“In terms of application that we have received, we have not received any application for a proposed party.”
She explained that although some groups are actively collecting signatures and documents, the FEO is yet to receive any completed registration applications.
“They have reserved their names, but we are yet to receive applications for registration,” she said
“But we are aware some of these reserved parties are out there in the public and collecting signatures.”
Electoral Commission Chair Justice Usaia Ratuvili stressed that reserving a name does not mean automatic registration.
All requirements under the Registration of Political Parties Act must still be met.
“So, it’s not a matter of 20-plus new parties on the scene now. They still have to qualify as political parties,” Justice Ratuvili said.
He confirmed that individuals from previously deregistered parties could return under new banners, provided they meet the legal requirements and face no valid objections.
“Everyone is entitled to a fresh start, if you like. And if they qualify, they qualify. They are registered. That’s it,” he said.
The FEO will continue to monitor developments closely as political interest builds in the lead-up to the 2026 polls.
