$324,000 upgrade boosts Lekutu fisheries facilities

The Lekutu Fisheries Quarters in Bua have received a major upgrade following the completion of a $324,453 maintenance and fencing project.
The project was officially handed over by Public Works Department (PWD) North Divisional Engineer Tevita Halofaki to Acting Chief Economic Planning Officer for the Ministry of Fisheries, Alumeci Rokobiau.
The upgrade is expected to improve facilities supporting fisheries operations and provide better working and living conditions for public servants based in the area.
Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services Ro Filipe Tuisawau said the completion of the project reflected the Coalition Government’s commitment to strengthening the Public Works Department and restoring quality government infrastructure.
“Projects such as the Lekutu Fisheries Quarters upgrade demonstrate our commitment to improving government-owned facilities while creating employment opportunities for Fijians,” Ro Filipe said.
He commended the PWD North team for its dedication and professionalism in delivering the project to the required standards.
“Maintaining safe, functional and reliable government facilities is important in ensuring effective public service delivery across the country,” Ro Filipe said.
The completion of the Lekutu project is part of ongoing infrastructure investment aimed at improving facilities used by civil servants across Fiji.
The Ministry of Fisheries recently received the completed maintenance and fencing works, which included improvements to the quarters to strengthen facilities supporting fisheries services in the Northern Division.
