$34k Village Hall Opens In Dreketi

Dreketi Village in the district of Wailevu opened it’s first village hall last weekend.
The $34,000 hall was funded by the Savusavu Community Foundation (SCF).
Village headman Isireli Matalevu while thanking the foundation said their prayers were answered that amidst the pandemic they were able to build a hall.

Mr Matalevu said they had been trying for many years to build a hall but were not able to achieve the total amount required.
Meanwhile, SCF chairman Ken Barasch thanked the village for providing the labourers and the catering during the three weeks construction period.
In his letter that was read by Paula Atalifo, Mr Barasch said the community hall is the cornerstone of Fijian life and culture.
“We are thrilled that many people in Dreketi contributed to the entire building process,” Mr Barash said.
He also thanked Cousteau Resort for their assistance in lending their carpenter and Mr Atalifo for organizing the logistics of the materials and the completion of the village hall.
