Collaboration between the Government and private sector is crucial for Fiji in a bid to improve service delivery.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, made the comment while officiating at the new fit-out Motorex Tavua Inspection agency.

“This is the type of relationship we are trying to develop with the private sector,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said there was Government support for private contractors’ investment in the service sector.

Room for more growth

Like the Motorex Limited project in Tavua, there was room for more growth in this sector, he said.

“We wish the company all the best for having confidence in the economy,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

The project demonstrated the company’s confidence in the Land Transport Authority (LTA), he said.

Motorex Group of Companies director, Basant Banfal, said the Government incentive and the environment it had created to carry out business, compelled the company to invest.

“You have seen the fruits of it,” Mr Banfal said.

The businessman

Mr Banfal was born in Nadi.

He migrated to New Zealand in 2000, where his primary business was in vehicle inspection.

In 2014, he returned to Fiji to invest in commercial infrastructure and vehicle inspection services.

Since then, Mr Banfal has developed:

  • The CarCity commercial building in Navo, Nadi, which hosts 20 shop units.
  • Motorex Building in Votualevu, which has eight shops and residential spaces.
  • Flagship Motorex business center which has 24 commercial lots, 35 shop units, eight warehouses, vehicle inspection agency and the total service station.
  • Motorex Ltd provides vehicle inspection at Nadi back road, Nausori, and Tavua.

Expansion

Mr Banfal said the company was working on launching its next project in Lami, in the  coming months.
