The new state of the art $36 million Nakasi Police Station modern facility built to meet the growing demand for law-and-order services in one of Fiji’s fastest-developing corridors was officially opened today.

The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Biman Prasad, who described the project as a vital investment in national safety and economic growth.

The new station stands as a major hub for the Eastern Division Headquarters, overseeing five police stations and 13 community posts across the provinces of Tailevu, Rewa, Naitasiri and Lomaiviti. It serves an estimated 45,000 people living and working in Nakasi, Wainibuku, Davuilevu and Koronivia.

Before this development, policing for Nakasi was coordinated through the smaller Wainibuku Police Post, which was upgraded to station status in 2007. As the area’s population and commercial activities grew, so did the demand for a larger, better-equipped facility.

The new station includes modern amenities such as separate men’s and women’s cells, interview rooms, locker and training rooms, and specialized units including community policing, criminal investigation, a command centre, and a tourist police unit.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Prasad said the investment reflected Government’s commitment to safety and stability, essential pillars for economic progress.

“This $36 million investment reaffirms our government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of every Fijian,” he said.

“Without stability and law and order, there can be no sustainable development or prosperity".

Mr Prasad also highlighted Fiji’s ambition to become a high-income country by 2050, noting that safety and strong policing are central to achieving this goal.
