$388m for Roads Upgrade

In a bid to improve community accessibility, Government has committed $30m to the sealing and upgrading of rural and community roads.
The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) received a $37 million increase in the 2025- 2026 National Budget.
FRA has been allocated $388m to improve the nation's road infrastructure.
This was announced in Parliament on Friday by the Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad.

The allocation is to fund nationwide road maintenance, renewals, and upgrades. About $120m will go towards road maintenance, while $74m is earmarked for road renewals, replacement, and resealing.
In a bid to improve community accessibility, Government has committed $30m to the sealing and upgrading of rural and community roads.
Notable allocations include $5m for the tarsealing of Kavanagasau Road (from Laselase to Naroro), as well as improvements to Biausevu Road in Sigatoka and key roads in Nausori such as Vuci, Naduru, and Koronivia.
Additionally, $23m has been set aside for the development of footpaths and bus shelters, aiming to enhance pedestrian safety and public transport infrastructure.
Comparatively, the 2024-2025 financial year saw an allocation of $354.Sm, which supported the ongoing building and maintenance of roads and the upgrading of bridges, jetties, and rural infrastructure.
Mr Prasad said an ongoing research was underway to analyse urban traffic congestion, particularly along corridors between Nadi and Lautoka, and Lami-Suva- Nausori.
The study is conducted with development partners, with the goal of informing long-term transportation planning and easing urban traffic flow.
The increased funding signals Government's commitment to building safer, more reliable transportation networks that support economic growth and improved connectivity for all Fijians.
