39 Year Old faces assault charges

For the offence of assault causing actual bodily harm, it is alleged that Kumar on April 3, 2019, at Nausori, assaulted Mosese Tikomaisainai thereby causing him actual bodily harm.

A 39-year-old man facing assault charges was granted bail by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Shamir Kumar appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar charged with one count each of assault causing actual bodily harm and of act intended to cause grievous harm.

For the offence of assault causing actual bodily harm, it is alleged that Kumar on April 3, 2019, at Nausori, assaulted Mosese Tikomaisainai thereby causing him actual bodily harm.

For the offence of act intended to cause grievous harm, it is alleged that Kumar on April 3, 2019, at Nausori, with intent to cause grievous harm to Mosese Tikomaisainai and unlawfully wounded the complainant with a cane knife.

State Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Inia Rakaria asked to be given 21 days to file for information and disclosures.

Justice Goundar granted bail to the accused on a $300 bail bond with two sureties.

He also ordered the accused not to change his address without the leave of the court, not to interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses, remain on good behaviour and report to Nausori Police Station every Saturday between 6am and 6pm.

The matter was adjourned to June 7 for mention before Justice Aruna Aluthge.
