The $3 billion worth of cocaine seized at Vatia in Tavua earlier this year is being stored in a secure location, Police have confirmed.

Police spokesperson Ms Ana Naisoro said the drugs are being kept safely as evidence, dismissing social media claims that officers had attempted to remove the cocaine from the exhibit room.

This masthead understands that officers at Samabula Police Station are under investigation for alleged corruption and abuse of office, but the matter is not related to the Vatia cocaine case.

The cocaine, seized during a joint operation between the Fiji Police Force and the Australian Federal Police at Vatia Wharf in January, weighed 2.64 tonnes.
