452 Speed Tickets Issued, Drink Driving a Concern, Says Qiliho
11 people were arrested for drink driving, 4 Southern Division, 6 Western. 1 Eastern Division. Aged 24 -59 years.

A total of 452 drivers were issued speeding tickets from 6am Saturday to 6am Monday morning, Police have confirmed.
Apart from this 11 people were arrested for drink driving.
Among these, two serious accident cases were recorded.

The first case was recorded in the Southern Division where a 28-year-old electrician was injured.
He was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a woman along Pritam Singh Road, Tuirara in Makoi.
The driver is alleged to have fallen asleep causing the vehicle to veer off the road resulting in the accident.
The victim was admitted at the Colonial Memorial Hospital (CWMH) and investigation continues.
In another accident, yesterday morning, a vehicle driven by a man in his 30s while travelling from Navua to Lautoka with four others veered off the road and tumbled along Queens Road.
A woman in her 50s was conveyed to the Nadi Hospital for treatment and investigations continues.
Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho says road accidents could be avoided if all road users remained vigilant.
“Everyone needs to adopt the mind-set of compliance whether Police are visible or not as it will, and can prevent injury and loss of life,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Police Force issued 202 and 133 speeding tickets respectively in the Western and Southern Division.
The Northern Division recorded 68 bookings while 49 bookings were made in the Eastern Division.
Brigadier-General Qiliho said apart from the worrying trend of speeding, arrests for drink driving were of equal concern with eleven arrests made.
Four arrests were made in the Southern Division, six in the West and one in the Eastern Division - those arrested were aged between 24 to 59 years old.
He said they anticipated a lot of social activities with increased movement following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings.
“As such, we hope that all road users will be mindful of their safety and take necessary safety precautionary measures at all times.”
