461 Taveuni Youths Graduated from FNU's Sustainable Livelihoods Project

Fiji National University new graduates with Vice Chancellor professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba and Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, guests and officials.
In a ceremony that has never been seen before on Taveuni Island, 461 students graduated from the Fiji National University (FNU) Sustainable Livelihoods Project (SLP) last Friday.
The graduation ceremony at Somosomo Village was a testimony of FNU’s effort in bringing tertiary education to rural and maritime locations.
Island chief and Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu officiated at the historic event.

He said the skills acquired by the graduates would empower them to make substantive contributions to the local economy and improve their lives.
Dr Lalabalavu said Government was committed in supporting initiatives from tertiary institutions which empowered youths to grow.

Dr Lalabalavu acknowledged the representations from various areas in the Cakaudrove Province.
FNU vice-chancellor professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba said FNU believed that education was a powerful tool for transformation.
She said FNU’s mission was to ensure that quality education for employability reached every corner of Fiji, including rural, remote, and maritime communities.
She said the university had been addressing the skills gap that Fiji had been facing and paved the way for a brighter, more sustainable future for Fijians.
