Beautification projects are underway in Lautoka City. A major project is the construction of a swimming pool. Lautoka City Council’s chief executive officer, Jone Nakauvadra, said yesterday that beautification projects in the municipality had been an ongoing work in progress.

Mr Nakauvadra said apart from beautification projects, upgrading and development works were also underway.

“The construction of a swimming pool is ongoing and it’s our major project,” he said.

Mr Nakauvadra said the council would work on other projects once the construction of the swimming pool was completed.

Several projects have been carried out in recent years to give a different look to the Sugar City.

This month, from March 18 to March 29, the Lautoka City Council will have a major clean up and the second cleanup will be before Diwali.

Another campaign called clean school campaign, which started at 2011, is teaching student’s proper waste management.

In the Lautoka City Councils continuous awareness campaign it has been carrying out in villagers, settlements and communities on proper waste management.
