Woman, 80, Becomes Latest Road Fatality

The victim from Vuci Road, Nausori, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old woman from Nadi.

A woman in her 80s is believed to be the country's latest road fatality victim.

The victim from Vuci Road, Nausori, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old woman from Nadi.

The two, with another woman, were travelling to Nadi when it is alleged the suspect lost control of the vehicle while trying to negotiate a bend along Komave, Sigatoka, causing it to veer off the road and run into a tree.

The victim was rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver and the second passenger were treated for minor injuries and discharged.

The driver remains in custody.

The road death toll currently stands at 15 compared to 11 for the same period last year.
