Six hundred drones will light up the Suva night next Saturday in what is being billed as the first drone light show of its kind in the Pacific.
China’s Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, announced the spectacle during a press conference today, describing it as the climax of year-long celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Fiji–China diplomatic relations.
The drone show will take place on Saturday, September 27, at Albert Park as part of a public carnival co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy and Suva City Council.

The drones will take off from the Suva Bowling Club and perform above the sea, with the western half of Albert Park identified as the best vantage point for spectators.
“This year marks the 50th anniversary of China–Fiji diplomatic relations, a significant milestone in the history of our bilateral relations,” Mr Zhou said.
“Since the beginning of this year, we have held a series of celebrations, one highlight after another. I’m pleased to announce a climax in the series of celebrations: a grand carnival at Albert Park open to the public where everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate together.”
The carnival will feature three main highlights:
- Cultural stalls and giveaways: The Chinese community, together with the China Cultural Centre and the Confucius Institute of USP, will set up booths offering cultural displays, gifts, and interactive experiences.
- Drone light show: The 600-drone performance from 6pm will illuminate Suva’s skyline in a choreographed display of lights.
- Joint performance: A top art troupe from Guangdong Province will collaborate with Fiji’s VOU dance company in a show combining songs, dances, martial arts, acrobatics, and magic.
Mr Zhou also confirmed that on October 1, the Chinese naval hospital ship Silk Road Ark will arrive in Fiji to provide free medical services.
Details of its programme will be announced closer to the date.
