The Qere Youth Club has launched a tent hire business and will receive musical instruments to boost tourism in Naqalimare district.

This was possible through a $6000 grant from Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation.

The club is based in Naveyago Village in Navosa.

Club advisor and Tikina Youth Council treasurer, Sikeli Gudru, said this marquee would serve as a profitable rental asset and a crucial resource for hosting training and capacity-building workshops for youth in the eight villages of Naqalimare.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude on this unwavering support,” he said.

The club, comprising 42 members aged 15 to 35, has been striving to uplift its community, where agriculture is the backbone.

“Previously, accessing marquees for community events was a logistical nightmare, forcing us to travel long distances. This initiative will provide financial stability for our youth club and also offer a much-needed service to our entire Tikina.”

The supplier provided comprehensive training on the construction and dismantling of the marquee, ensuring club members were fully equipped to manage the rental operations effectively.

The Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation also donated musical instruments worth $2500.

These instruments will be used to entertain tourists visiting Naveyago Village, enhancing its appeal as a cultural destination and further bolster economic potentials.

“Our long-term goal is to raise enough money to purchase a tractor to help with farming,” he said.

Foundation executive Ambalika Kutty said this contribution would leave a lasting legacy on the youth club and the broader tikina of Naqalimare.

She said the club was committed to maximise opportunities to create a sustainable income source, fostering economic growth and contribute to overall community development.

The grant was awarded following a detailed application submitted in May of the previous year.
