Seven women of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) are now commissioned officers after they successfully completed the Officer Cadet Course.
The seven along 10 men were commissioned last Friday.
They make up close to half of the total number of newly commissioned officers.

RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto said this was a healthy indication that there was nothing impossible for women to take on leadership roles in male dominated fields.
The seven young women and 10 men were commissioned to the role of Second-Lieutenants after completing 46-weeks of the officer’s cadet course.
While commissioning the officers Commander Naupoto said the young men and women would have the privilege of leading soldiers placed under their command, including those who may have been in the force longer than themselves.
“Those soldiers will very quickly know you and almost everything about you,” Commander Naupoto said.
“Your responsibility is to know them and know them well. Learn their hopes and dreams.”
He reminded the newly commissioned officers of their role in the military and to be role models to those under their watch.
“Your soldiers will expect a lot from you; to lead them in the right direction; to make the right decisions on their behalf; to coach them into better soldiers; to hear their grievances and do something about it.
“They will expect you to uphold the values of the institution. They will expect you to help them when they make mistakes; to encourage them when they’re feeling down and to say thank you when they do well.”
Youngest Commissioned Officer
Nadroga lass, Grace Qasevakatini was the youngest commissioned officer.
The 20-year-old hails from Sila village in Cuvu, Nadroga. She attributed her success to her family and loved ones.
Despite loosing her father three years ago, Second-Lieutenant Qasevakatini kept her faith in God.
“This would have not been possible without the help of the Holy Spirit, my family and friends who supported me in this journey.
“It has always been God, helpful families and close friends. Thank you for all your support,” she said.
