Nine hundred thousand has been allocated for Niurua and Naqumu villages in Macuata for clean and safe drinking water projects.

Macuata provincial administrator (PA) Revoni Rakasa made the revelation while making his presentation at Macuata Provincial Council meeting at Sasa Village on Friday.

Ms Rakasa alluded that Government has allocated $637 million to improve infrastructure and services in the north.

“The Government is focused making sure that the people in Northern Division which includes Macuata have access to essential services,” Mr Rakasa said.

He further stated that the funds will be used for critical projects such as maintenance and improving works on roads, water, communication and market access.

He said a few projects have been identified and the funds would be allocated for them

“The Government will respond to those in need, but it may take time,” he said.

“Government has already shown its commitment by responding to disaster relief last year whereby more than $655 million was spent,” he said. He said a lot of relief effort was done to help people recover from natural disasters.
