930 Cases Of HIV/AIDS In The Country: Dr Waqainabete

A total of 930 cases of HIV/AIDS has been diagnosed in Fiji from 1989 to 2018 says Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.

He made the revelation during his ministerial statement in Parliament yesterday.

Dr Waqainabete said the total number of registered AIDS related deaths to date that have been recorded till now is 117.

“The total number of people living with HIV on treatment is 468,” he said.

“359 of this 468 or 77 per cent are those on treatment.

“Of this, 444 are adults on treatment and the total number of infants on follow up and on treatment for HIV is 13.”

In the past five years, an average of seven pregnant women per annum were diagnosed with HIV in pregnancy.
