A 66-year-old grandmother burst into tears when she received groceries as a Christmas gift from representatives of JP Bayly Trust Labasa on Tuesday.

Lita Finau of Wailevu, said she had been praying earnestly for the past few days for Jesus to bless her and grandson, Elia Nainoka with food so that she can prepare meals on Christmas day.

“When I went to Labasa Town last week, I saw the fruit cake which I used to eat during my childhood days and it was about $20,” Ms Finau said.

“Food is so expensive nowadays and I could only ask Jesus to bless us with enough groceries for breakfast and dinner.”

“Christmas is like celebrating Jesus’s birthday and I usually do it by cooking and eating meals with families,” Ms Finau.

“This Christmas is like Jesus showering me with blessings of food so that I could remember Him in prayers and have a joyful time with my grandson.”

Nainoka, a Year Three student of Sangam Primary School in Labasa, was also emotional while seeing her grandmother cry.

“It hasn’t been easy for her after grandfather passed away,” Nainoka said.

“I thank Jesus for blessing me with a grandmother, who tries her best to look after me.
