“We want our land back! For 12 years we haven’t seen any fruit of giving our land to the Land Bank,” Ms Meli said.

Lack of communication has resulted in unresolved issues, says Attorney-General Siromi Turaga.

Mr Turaga highlighted this when advising various government stakeholder representatives at a meeting in Legalega on Wednesday.

Mr Turaga had reached out to an invitation from landowners of Saunaka Village.

These landowners were from the mataqali Vunamoli, under the tokatoka Vunamasei from the yavusa o Naua, Saunaka.

Their portion of land is located in Legalega, which is two kilometres from the Nadi International Airport.

They pleaded with Mr Turaga if they could get back their land which they had given to the land bank when the FijiFirst Government was in power.

An agreement was made after they gave 25 acres of their land to be leased.

Their spokesperson, Talica Meli, said they have been waiting for funds promised to them for the past 12 years.

Their land deposited in the land bank was to be developed into housing subdivisions.

“We want our land back! For 12 years we haven’t seen any fruit of giving our land to the Land Bank,” Ms Meli said.

Representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, Energy Fiji Limited and Fiji Water Authority were present.

They clarified issues of hold-ups on the Lot 96 subdivisions.

The A-G urged them to continuously update the landowners on the process taking place.

“Communication, that is what the Government is demanding of civil servants. Miscommunication disheartens the spirit. It creates a lot of things that may not be true,” Mr Turaga said.

“Maybe the ministers were not aware of this problem. The way forward is for your ministry to prepare a cabinet paper and highlight these problems and the cost of what needs to be done.”
