A-G Explains Food Ration Distribution
Minister said that food rations were specifically for those people who were in specific lockdown areas.

SODELPA MP JESE SAUKURU asked - Can the Honourable Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Civil Service and Communications inform Parliament if the areas outside the containment zones have been included in the ration distribution, considering that they have been locked out of their normal trading centres?
People outside containment zones were not assisted with ration packs because they were still able to go to access shops, said Attorney-General and Minister for Economy and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He said the rationale behind the containment zone, the curfew and the food ration is different for those people who could actually move around and be able to buy the food items they wanted.
He added that food rations were specifically for those people who were in specific lockdown areas.
“They cannot leave, they are there for seven or 14 days because the Ministry of Health tells them not to leave those places, therefore, they are given food rations,” he said.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum added that another reason which has been discontinued, were in areas that pertain specifically to the Suva to Nausori corridor where there was a four or five-day lockdown or curfew.
He said more than 5000 food ration packs have been distributed in the lockdown areas, specifically Muanikoso, Nadali, etc.
He added that 24,315 food ration packs were distributed from June 16 to June 19, in the lockdown areas when there was a 24-hour lockdown in place.
