A-G Outlines Process In Municipal Council Elections

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Mr Turaga revealed that on January 31, 2023, Cabinet had approved the establishment of a working group to prepare a detailed plan for conducting the elections.

The Government will make sure that the public is fully aware of the Electoral System to use for the upcoming Municipal Councils Elections, says Siromi Turaga.

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Mr Turaga revealed that on January 31, 2023, Cabinet had approved the establishment of a working group to prepare a detailed plan for conducting the elections.

The working group is chaired by the Local Government Permanent Secretary and includes other key permanent secretaries, such as finance, Solicitor-General, Acting Supervisor of Election, and Chief Executive Officers for all 13 municipal councils.

The working group is responsible for various tasks, including recommending the most appropriate electoral system to be used for municipal councils.
