Attorney-General Siromi Turaga addressed the shortcomings of the Climate Change Act of 2021, stating that it lacked effectiveness and was without teeth as a piece of legislation.
During the Lomaiviti Provincial Council meeting, Mr Turaga said the Act is within the jurisdiction of the office of the Prime Minister and was undergoing thorough examination even though it was passed in parliament by the previous Government.
“The Act has not yet come into effect, primarily due to certain components that still require approval and regulation by the Cabinet, which has not been completed,” Mr Turaga said.
