A man sustained injuries in alleged burglary

A hotel worker is counting his lucky stars after he sustained a wound to his head in an alleged Sunday morning burglary.
Sakhawat Ali, 45, who resides in the Cook Islands and has been on vacation in Fiji since last December, claimed he was attacked in the alleged incident
He was allegedly assaulted by a robber at his house in Bandila Crescent, Balawa, Lautoka, on Sunday morning.

He was asleep with his other three family members when the alleged incident happened about 3.30am.
He said he woke up after a group of men allegedly entered their home through a window. The fourth person, he claimed, was at the gate.
Mr Ali said he heard his aunt yelling, which woke him up and he dashed to check what happened.
“On my way out of the room when I met one of the masked men, who held a knife in one hand,” he said.
“We had a scuffle, I gave him one blow, but he had a knife. He broke a mug on my head which required hospital attention.”

He claimed the men stole assorted items worth $3000 including jewellery, cash and a bag containing his travelling documents.
“I am terrified of what happened. Are we safe at home?”
Mr Ali was treated at the Lautoka Aspen Hospital.
Police confirmed the incident and investigations are underway.
