The president of the Adi Cakobau School Old Girls Association, Ilisapeci Movono, said the 75th anniversary celebration was focused on sisterhood, more than just camaraderie.
Ms Movono said the celebration represents an empowering, resilient, and supportive communal spirit among indigenous women.
“Many of these ladies continue to support the school even though they graduated from college a long time ago by funding special initiatives and capital improvements in addition to playing a significant part in the implementation of the school’s distinctive programmes,” Ms Movono said.
“This anniversary is a time to honour the school’s history, but it also allows us, as its stakeholders, a chance to rekindle our relationships and consider how we may continue to serve as this institution’s main source of support.”
The nine-day celebration that began on Monday was to support indigenous feminism by showcasing the unity and strength of indigenous women as they pursued leadership and empowerment.
Apart from the one-week activity, current students of Adi Cakobau School showcased traditional items that hyped up the event.
The celebrations will culminate with a thanksgiving church service at the Centenary Church on Sunday.
