Victory over Japan!

That’s the aim of FIJI Water Flying Fijians squad member, Ben Volavola.

“Our aim is to win in Japan,” he said.

“We had a good couple of weeks in camp; the boys have done really well in Samoa and against Tonga at home.”

He anticipates that head coach, Simon Raiwalui, will field a different team as they take on Japan in the final showdown of the Punjas Battle of the Pacific match on Saturday at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium in Tokyo.

He commended the different combinations being tested adding that it would play a crucial role in the team’s build-up to the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, in September.

“And a win over Japan would be a bonus,” he said.

Volavola and his number 10 comrades – Teti Tela and Caleb Muntz – left yesterday too for Japan.

He has been recovering from an injury for the past two weeks, alongside France-based star Vinaya Habosi (eye surgery), Jiuta Wainiqolo (ankle), and Japan-based Seta Tamanivalu.

“I had torn my quads and was recovering,” Volavola said.

“I would be really happy to play this weekend.”

The Flying Fijians moves up 10th spot in the World Rugby rankings, relegating Samoa to 11th spot.
