ACCF Makes First Payment Of $75,000 To Lakena Bus Accident Victim's Mother
To date ACCF has paid over $7.5 million in compensation to victims of motor vehicle, employment and school accidents since 01st January 2018.

The Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji (ACCF) has made its first payment for the death of one of the passengers of the Lakena Bus accident.
The victim was involved in the horrific bus accident on 09th October 2019 in Lakena which claimed the lives of two pupils and several others sustained injuries.
The motor vehicle accident application was received from the mother of the deceased child on 24th of October 2019 as she was under eighteen years of age.

Upon receiving the application and all relevant information, ACCF processed it in a timely manner and assessed their compensation in accordance with the Accident Compensation Act 2017 and Regulations.
When receiving her compensation of $75,000.00, the victim’s mother – Mrs Tutu said the following:
“Thank you to the ACCF team for being there from the beginning of the accident until today. Thank you so much to all the staff of the ACCF for helping me through my application. I did not know anything about ACCF, and you introduced me to it through your awareness and you helped me right through the process. I thank you so much for all you have done for us.”
An application has not been made for compensation for the other death from this accident as the family are attending to legal matters before doing so.
Upon receiving a completed application, it will be processed in a timely manner and compensation will be paid out accordingly.
The ACCF team is assisting with any enquiries for injuries suffered as a result of this accident.
On a separate note, the ACCF states that there is no delay in respect of applications for compensation for injuries arising out of the bus accident in Tailevu last year.
Contrary to a media report, the applicants have been fully informed of the current status of the application and the normal time frame involved in assessing the injuries.
All of the Tailevu bus accident applications are being processed in a timely manner and there are no delays whatsoever.
