Adi Kakua Mara Advises Youth, Women Club Not For Retired Mothers

Joining a women’s group to grasp how to become a traditional artisan is not only for retired married women.
Adi Kakua Mara shared this sentiment during an interview at the Central Division Women’s Expo at Suva Civic Centre front carpark.
Adi Kakua is the third child and daughter of Fiji’s first Prime Minister, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.

She has a reputation for keeping a lower public profile than her siblings do.
But yesterday she shared a powerful message pleading with youths to be passionate and have keen interest in joining women’s clubs to learn traditional arts and learn to become.
Too often, joining a women’s club in a community and in a village setting has been tangled with stereotypes that it is only for women, and retired women.
Adi Kakua said this should not be the case, it is crucial that the younger generation show more interest in these specific areas.
“Although joining a women’s group seems like what retired married women do, I would encourage women to try to get into a group,” Adi Kakua said.
“And also because of the traditional knowledge that should be shared, which is really so important.
“When you are in a group, it’s easy to share information and knowledge.”
