Everyone including Non-Government Organisations needs to help our hospitals in Fiji by providing the necessary support, says Amelia Simmons.

Ms Simmons, the newly elected president of Labasa Rotary Club made this remark while handing over 51 boxes of adult diapers at Labasa Hospital on Wednesday.

She said after been made aware that the biggest divisional hospital in Northern Division was in dire hard need of bedsheets and diapers, the club decided to step forward to assist.

“We were told that adults diapers in supermarkets and pharmacies were very expensive and sometimes patient’s families couldn’t afford,” Ms Simmons said.

“The hospital assists with the supply but sometimes the demand was more and the burden used to be on the patients especially those on dialysis, immobile on bed or underwent surgeries.”

She said each box contained 30 pieces which means the hospital would be in a stable position to assist patients for a couple of months.

“We all need to take care of our hospitals and provide the help the medical professionals need so that the patients can get the right treatment and return to their homes quickly,” she added.

Labasa Hospital acting medical superintendent Doctor Mikaele Mua thanked the Rotary Club of Labasa and its members for their kind gesture.

“We are already looking after patients who are using adult diapers and such kind of timely assistance will help us do our work more efficiently,” Dr Mua said.

“I am happy to note that the club will also reach out to our sub divisional hospitals in Savusavu and Nabouwalu to supply these diapers.”
