Despite his age Meliki Radaiga, 76, was determined to be part of the search team that was trying to locate the plane crash site at Delaikoro mountain, in Macuata, on Wednesday.

Mr Radaiga, who hails from Vunikakawa Village, knew he had to do something to help.

“I heard in the news that the turaga-ni-koro (village headman) of Dogoru was asking for assistance from the people in nearby villagers so we decided to help,” he said.

“There were about 10 of us.  We left our village at 8am and around 1pm the turaga-ni-koro of Dogoru called us and said that the crash site has been located.”

Mr Radaiga said he was thankful that the bodies had been found.

“I know I am old but because I felt for the family of the deceased I knew I had to assist. I hope that the discovery of the plane and the bodies of the two bring peace to their families,” he said.

“This incident has really touched the lives of many especially those in the Northern Division.”
