One of the country’s leading retailers for lights, furniture and solar products, Al-Hamd, has come to the rescue of a settlement in Nawaka.

The Nadi-based company, with branches in Suva and Labasa, donated 10 solar lights with poles for M A Khan Road in Nawaka.

Managing director Ashfaaq Khan said the idea behind the donation was to fight against crime and help the residents and other services access the area at night.

“I have turned their darkness into light. The total cost of the lights and poles is around $4000 and I have decided to call it ‘Light a Neighbourhood Programme’,” Mr Khan said.

“I know the country is facing difficult times during this COVID outbreak, but my company has gone ahead with the project for its completion.

“These solar lights were also put in place to support our Prime Minister and the Government’s initiative on green energy growth in Fiji.”

He said any company or organisation wishing to do the same could contact his company.

He has been commended by many residents in the area, and he is happy that they have carried out the project.

Roko Tui Nadi Iosefo Rovereivalu thanked the company for assisting the neighbourhood during these trying times.
