Albanese arrives in Fiji to strengthen Vuvale Partnership

Mr Albanese's visit to Fiji forms part of a Pacific tour before he travels to the Solomon Islands.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in Fiji last night, saying closer cooperation between Pacific neighbours would build stronger economies and a safer region.

Mr Albanese was welcomed at Nausori Airport by Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka and Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Sakiasi Ditoka, where he was accorded a 50-member Guard of Honour by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. "When we work with our neighbours, we achieve more. Together, we can make our economies stronger and our region safer. And that's why I've come to Fiji today," Mr Albanese said.

During his official visit, Mr Albanese will take part in a traditional welcoming ceremony, hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, and pay a courtesy call on the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

In a statement, the Fiji Government said the visit reflected the strong friendship between Fiji and Australia and reinforced both countries' commitment to the Vuvale Partnership.

"The visit reflects the strong bonds of friendship between Fiji and Australia and further reinforces both countries' commitment to the Vuvale Partnership, built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared regional priorities," the statement said.
