In the midst of all iTaukei staff, a young man, clad in suluvakataga, neatly tucked shirt and hair perfectly brushed made his way into the office.

Irfan Ali, the Treasurer for the Bua Provincial Office based at the majestic Naulumatua house, in Nabouwalu, Bua, is the the only Fijian with Indian descendant employed by the iTaukei Affairs for the province of Bua.

Mr Ali, 32 was born and raised in Labasa. He considered himself as a Kai Macuata and was very proud of it.

He was educated at Labasa Muslim College before attaining his Bachelors degree in Accounting and Information system from the University of the South Pacific.

He had spent over eight years at the Provincial Office.

“I enjoy working here because of the relaxed environment despite the complexity of work that I do,” he said.

“I am basically in charge of all the accounting system of the Provincial office, and I enjoy what I do.”

Mr Ali further stated that a feat he achieved while at the Provincial office was the backlog reconciliation which he was the first to update out of the 14 provinces in the country.

Mr Ali summed up his story by saying that one thing he enjoyed most about being part of the iTaukei Affairs family was the opportunity to learn more about Fijian traditions and customs from his colleagues.
