Alleged Arsonist Bailed with Strict Conditions
Defence lawyer Ronald Singh, presented an affidavit to Justice Kumarage on Tuesday that included a number of bail requirements, including the State prosecutor’s consultation.

Sebastian Rakai, 33, who is accused of attempting to set fire to the Totogo Police Station in Suva on fire, was granted bail yesterday.
Rakai appeared before Judge Justice Thushara Kumarage at the High Court in Suva.
Defence lawyer Ronald Singh, presented an affidavit to Justice Kumarage on Tuesday that included a number of bail requirements, including the State prosecutor’s consultation.

After a series of proceedings, Justice Kumarage granted Rakai bail, reiterating that public safety was still paramount for the court and the State.
Rakai was bailed on the following conditions:
- He must visit the St Giles Psychiatric Hospital as soon as possible for compulsory community treatment and rehabilitation services.
- If he is found consuming drugs, this will be a breach of the bail condition, and he will be brought back into remand.
- All persons in supervision, which include the three sureties and the house girl, must alert the Totogo Police Station or the hospital should they have a reason to default on their medication.
- The record book for his medication and medical appointments must always be updated.
- Police officer assigned by the State prosecutor is allowed to carry out the investigation. These include regular checkups and inspections of the bedroom and outside of the house.
- Converse with sureties about the current Rakai’s state.
- If officers have reason to believe that Rakai is defaulting on his medication, they are to inform the court.
Rakai is to report to the Flagstaff Community Police Post every Friday at 7am.
The case was adjourned to March 13 for mention.
