The Electoral Registration Voters Amendment Bill 2023 was unanimously passed in Parliament on Friday.
Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, expressed her concern over the law, stating that it disregarded the decision of the High Court and negatively impacted Niko Nawaikula, who had been absent from Parliament for some time.
She argued that the law aimed to disenfranchise women voters.

Ms Tabuya referred to the 2013 Constitution, emphasising Section 26(3)(a), which prohibits discrimination based on gender or marital status.
