The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will make sure the decision to appoint key positions within public offices is done right by following its rules.

This is the assurance from COC Chair and Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday.

He was responding to a statement released by the Fiji Labour Party's (FLP) leader Mahendra Chaudhry about sending mixed messages to the nation and allowing a delay in making appointments. The Coalition government was sworn in on December 24, 2022.

To date, there are multiple positions still vacant and awaiting the decision of the COC.

These positions include the Supervisor of Election, Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of the Fiji Correction Services and the members of the Fiji Human Rights Anti- Discrimination Commission board.

Mr Rabuka said the appointment referred to by the FLP was related to other positions which were already soughted. He said the decision to make appointments on the vacant positions would come from the Commision and they would adhere to those processes.

"We want to do it right and the decision will come from the Commission not the Chair of the Commission. The appointment of the Supervisor of Election has not been confirmed, as well as the new Commissioner of Police and the others," he said.

The Commission will meet at the end of this month, April 29 where Mr Rabuka said all issues would be resolved. Parliament commences today.

A parliamentary workshop is scheduled for next week.
