It was a perfect day for 10-year-old Arjun Kumar, of Labasa, as he not only got to celebrate his birthday with his parents, but also watch his dad received a medal of honour.
Arjun and his mother, Sanjeeta Sharma - who works at the High Court Registry in Suva - joined the crowd of people at the Suva Civic Centre to witness the medal presentation.
About 206 Police officers were awarded Fiji Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medals (FPLSM) and 89 were awarded Fiji Police Medals (FPM).

"I am proud," Arjun said about his faÂther, Inspector Avinesh Kumar, who reÂceived a FPM.
Arjun's birthday was on December 20, just three months after his father returned from his United Nation mission in South Sudan.
This is his father's third medal since returning home.
"I'm very proud of my achievement and my family being here to witness my achievement," Inspector Kumar said.
"I have been with the Fiji Police Force for 19 years now and I thank them for recognising us and our efforts and dediÂcation to keeping this country safe."
Arjun is scheduled to leave for Labasa on Saturday to prepare for the start of school.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, in his address, commended all Police officers for the effort shown in keeping Fiji safe, irrespective of the different perspectives made by members of the public.
"Treat every opportunity as one to do good and better," he said.
"Unfortunately, some of our comrades have chosen the other path and now find themselves awaiting the fate of the court of law."
ACP Chew said while there was burden on the officers to do better, he advised them to maintain the status quo and be better officers for the sake of their families and the nation.
