Assistant Minister Delivers His Promise To Lagalaga Primary School

Lagalaga Sanatan Primary School headteacher Rajen Prasad yesterday thanked the Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Viam Pillay, for keeping his promise of delivering nursery materials to the school.
The school, which is about 53km from Labasa town, was visited by Mr Pillay last month and the school requested for nursery material for the benefit of the students from Year One to Eight

“Our student roll is 106 and all of them come from the farming background,” Mr Prasad said.
“We want our students to have an interest in farming so that they can choose to study something in agriculture and return to their community equipped with knowledge and skills to assist their families.
“We are planning to plant vegetables and fruits once the nursery is built,” Mr Prasad said.
Lagalaga Central Committee Rice Farmers president Arun Deo thanked Mr Pillay for keeping his promise.
Mr Pillay said he was aware of the struggles faced by the farmers and the concerns about the young generation leaving farming for white-collar jobs.
“If anyone is willing to work hard and do farming, the Ministry of Agriculture will assist them,” Mr Pillay said.
“I have informed the head teacher that I want to see the nursery is set up in two weeks’ time and I will come next month for inspection.”
The materials for the nursery are worth $3,500.
