Australia will contribute an additional $7.4 million this financial year to support Fiji’s response to HIV, sexual health issues and infectious diseases.

Australian High Commissioner to Fiji Peter Roberts made the announcement during World AIDS Day commemorations at Sukuna Park this morning.

Mr Roberts said the funding reflects strengthened partnership following Fiji’s declaration of a national HIV outbreak in January.

“I’m pleased to announce that Australia will contribute an additional Fiji dollar 7.4 million this financial year to support Fiji’s HIV, sexual health and infectious disease response,” he said.

The funding forms part of a new $48 million Australian support package for the Pacific HIV Action Program announced by Australia’s Foreign Minister last week.

Mr Roberts said the additional support builds on the $5.7 million Australia announced for Fiji in May 2025, bringing total Australian support for Fiji’s HIV response to more than $13 million this year.

“We’re very pleased to be able to do that on the back of the announcement of the outbreak here in Fiji,” he said.

He said Australia’s support responds directly to priorities identified by the Fijian Government following the outbreak declaration.

Through the Australia–Fiji Health Program, the funding will equip laboratories across the country with biomedical equipment to improve detection and management of HIV and syphilis.

“This equipment will support frontline health workers to deliver accurate and timely health care,” Mr Roberts said.
