Rewa bounce back to keep OFC semi-final hopes alive

Rewa bounced back to winning ways with a 4-2 win over Tupapa Maraerenga FC in Group B’s OFC Men’s Champions League clash at Govind Park, Ba, yesterday.

After a shock start against Galaxy FC last Sunday, Rewa found their mojo when midfielder Ramzan Khan fired in the first goal as they led 1-0 at halftime.

The visitors struck after the break when Tremaine Rimene-Albrett scored the equaliser.

This fired up the hosts as they scored three quick goals to Joseph Athale, Setareki Hughes and Josaia Sela to lead 4-1 and secure the three points. Tupapa Maraerenga FC scored a late consolation goal through Honoura Maraetefau.

An added boost for the visitors was when Key Viliamu was named Man of the Match.

Rewa coach/player Tevita Waranivalu praised his players for adapting to Tupapa Maraerenga FC’s deep defensive approach.

Waranivalu also acknowledged former player and coach Marika Rodu for providing guidance from the sideline.

“We really needed someone to guide us from the sideline. We approached him and he said yes to us,” he said.

With Rewa still in contention for the semi-final, Waranivalu said, recovery and preparation would be key ahead of their final group match.

Dubbed the Delta Tigers, they face Lae City Dwellers on Saturday at Govind Park, Ba.

The match kicks-off at 3pm.
