Australia Federal Police backs Fiji in cybercrime fight
Australian experts pledges support to Fiji Police as online crime and social media misuse surge.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is ready to support the Fiji Police Force in its efforts to address growing concerns of online crimes.
This was revealed by the Detective Superintendent Grace Calmam, a lead cyber expert, who paid a visit to the Fiji Police Force headquarters this week.
Detective Superintendent Calma currently oversees cyber investigations across the AFP, including infrastructure and international investigations.

She called on the Commissioner of Police at the Police headquarters, before her scheduled meetings with the CID Cybercrime and digital forensics teams, whom she plans to share experiences and knowledge.
Her visit was accompanied by Detective Superintendent Grant Liddy, who is the senior officer Suva for the AFP and Detective Inspector Paul Everingham.
Detective Superintendent Calma said the complexities of online crimes needed a collaborative approach with law enforcement partners and stakeholders, as most are cross border in nature.
She met with the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, who revealed his intentions to establish a Fiji Police Cyber Directorate, a unit that can help support efforts to address cybercrimes in Fiji.
Mr Tudrau said the visit was timely noting the increasing number of cyber related crimes, as well as the misuse of social media and other communication platforms.
Detective Superintendent Calma said they were ready to support the Commissioner’s intent, as similar steps were taken by the Australian Federal Police over a period of time, with lessons learnt to be shared with Fiji.
