An Australian couple, Owen Twist and his wife Christine, are happy to be back in Fiji.

They were part of the 2000-plus passengers on the P&O Cruises Australia cruise ship that visited Lautoka on Monday.

The couple lived in Fiji in the early 1970s serving the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Suva.

“It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some of our local friends that we have contacted through social media,” said Mr Twist.

“We came for two years, but I like the people so much that I stayed for nine. Then I had to go home, but Fiji has always held a special place in our hearts.”

The couple’s daughters, who are nurses, spent part of their childhood in Fiji. The family’s deep ties in Fiji made their return visit memorable.

The couple expressed their gratitude for the enduring relationships they built during their years in Fiji.

The couple returned with Fijian souvenirs by buying handicrafts from woodcarver Jone Sito.

The cruiseship’s next stop will be Taveuni before it returns to Sydney.
