The National Fire Authority (NFA) prevented a fire on four derelict buses from spreading at the Nasese Buses garage on Carpenter Street in Suva yesterday.
The buses had no engines or seats and were parked with other derelict buses belonging to the company.
Nasese Buses Limited director, Jack Kumar, said the damage could have been far worse.

“The buses that caught fire were of no value. They were derelict. It is funny how the fire started because it cannot start by itself,” he said.
“There is a large fuel tank, welding equipment and other buses. The firefighters were fast and doused the fire before it could spread to other buses and become a bigger problem.
“Police are investigating and I hope we find out how the fire started.”
NFA said they responded to an emergency call around midday.
Investigations into the matter continue.
