The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has revealed that its systems have been operating with aged pipeline infrastructure, some remain buried as long as 50 years.

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has revealed that its systems have been operating with aged pipeline infrastructure, some remain buried as long as 50 years.

Nearly half of the treated water from the water plants is lost through leakage.

This side bar problem is also coupled with 200 bursts per 100 kilometres of water main, while the global benchmark is 13 bursts per 100 kilometres.

Chief operating officer Seru Soderberg described the challenge of water faults as “significant”.
