Parents Mamta and Udya Shukla received their best present last week after their son, Ayush was named Fiji Year Eight Examination (FY8E) National Toppers Student.

Ayush, a Year 803 student of Rishikul Primary School last year, scored 494 out of 500 in his examination.

He scored full marks in Health Science, 99 in Mathematics and Basic Science, 98 in Hindi and English and 97 in Social Science.

Mr Udya said Ayush’s time management was something he was always proud of.

“We are just really proud of our son,” Mr Udya said.

“We never doubted that he would be exceptionally good because for starters, he came first in his class last year and scooped the dux award,” Mr Udya said.

“Family support for his education was a big deal. His mother would stay up late with him and help him go through some of his readings.”

Ayush thanked his teachers for playing a huge role in his excelling.

“A big thank you goes out to my teachers for helping me find a place to start with my studying and to the Ministry of Education. There was just so much information, I didn’t know where to begin,” he said.

“To be named the FEYE National Toppers Student, I think my parents are prouder of me than I am of myself. My dream is to become a computer engineer when I grow up. I have an interest in science and chemistry.”

Ayush is expected to start at Year 9 at Jai Narayan College in Suva.

“I encourage other students, that to be successful, you need to first unlock your full potential,” he said.

Rishikul Primary School achieved an overall 81 per cent pass rate, surpassing the school target and setting a new benchmark for the 2024 academic year.
