Baby Elia Among Evacuees At Kubulau District School, Bua

One month old Baby Elia at the Kubulau District School evacuation centre.
At least 100 evacuees are taking shelter at the Kubulau District School in Bua.
The youngest is baby Elia who is 1-month-old.
Atunaisa is 3-months and Samisoni 6-months - are also at the shelter, a girls dormitory.

Most of the evacuees are from Namalata village.
Jane Meli who staying with an Aunt at Namalata said she did not want to move to the shelter.
“I didn’t want to go to the evacuation centre but my aunt just packed my clothes and forced me into the carrier. She said, you didn’t see what happened to us when TC Winston struck.”
Several homes in Namalata village were destroyed in 2016.
Earlier today when the Turaga ni Koro called for villagers to move into evacuation centres, Ms Meli said no one argued and simply followed instructions.
